Chocolate Rebellion: Tasting and Talking PanAfrican Chocolate

Chocolate Rebellion: Tasting and Talking PanAfrican Chocolate
Every chocolate bar carries the story and taste of the place it came from. Join chocolate maker Gillian Goddard for an exclusive tasting featuring bars crafted by growers in cooperatives. Chocolate Rebellion now has a presence in 22 countries, with collectives in 3 African nations, 3 Caribbean nations, and 4 US cities actively moving chocolate. Tasting your way from bright and fruity to deep and earthy, Gillian will share the stories of the growers, the knowledge that was kept from them, and what changes when the value of cacao stays in the hands of the people who grow it. Taste chocolate made by cacao growers themselves and see how a single bar can become a tool for justice.
Gillian Goddard, a community organizer and chocolate-maker, co-founded the Alliance of Rural Communities, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering rural communities across the Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa. Goddard’s work seeks not only to enhance the well-being of rural populations but also to explore complex issues of power, decolonization, and emancipation across grassroots, commercial, and academic spaces.
